I earned an A in AP Art/Studio Art II because of the improvements I made to my outlook on the creative process. Before I took Art this year I had no idea what to expect of a school art class, the only art classes I’d taken were oil painting classes. I was worried I would learn that I was somehow doing something wrong or we’d have strict assignments, but that wasn't the case. This class allowed me to experience new techniques and mediums I couldn't have before. I learned that art couldn't be confined to one idea, but to make it yours you can bend that idea to whatever you want. I have learned to take risks with my art. Instead of the normal graphite portraits, I learned to love still lives and mediums like colored pencil and watercolor. I had given up on chalk pastels until I started using them in portraits, I had never thought that was even possible. I’ve become more motivated in general, completing tasks is easy and fun for me. The choice of the 2-D portfolio was great for me because it allowed me to explore with mediums like photography and digital design. The printmaking way back at the beginning of the year was something that i liked but wanted to do on a larger scale. So making the stencils for fabric printing was really fun for me. Another thing i have improved on is I think i’m a better writer. It was hard for me to reflect on my art at the beginning of the year because I had never done it before. Being in AP was a struggle for me at times but was ultimately worth it in the end because it made me a better artist and person.
